The number 1 source of modern human stress is lying. We lie to our partners, “No, I’m not upset, I’m just tired.” We lie to our colleagues, “Yeah sorry, I’ve been meaning to get back to you.” We lie to our families, “We’d love to, but we’re really busy on Sunday.”  Honesty and trust rank amongst the highest values for building and maintaining strong, lasting, successful relationships. However, the findings from psychological studies on lying and deceit suggest that we lie up to 100 times per day! Bending the truth, exaggerating the details, withholding important facts, hiding how we truly feel and all of our other favorite forms of lying are so deeply imbedded into our cultural narrative that most of us think the world would collapse into chaos if we suddenly started telling the truth.

At Radical Honesty, we’ve been putting that theory to the test for over 30 years. And what we find from countless lived experiences is that when we share what’s true, our relationships tend not to fall apart. They typically become deeper, more connected, and more fulfilling, relieving tension in the truth-tellers as well as the truth-hearers, and freeing up creative energy.
