Description

Can a person be “too good”? Is society at fault for mistreating its most saintly people? Or is a “too good” person at fault for failing
to conform, for inviting exploitation or for tolerating evil? In this exploration of Dostoyevsky’s brilliant classic, The Idiot, we will
discuss the book and explore such issues, while also viewing clips from the excellent mini-series. Students should expect to read about
85 pages per week. For the first class, please read the first three chapters of the Pevear and Volkonsky or or McDuff translations.
Course will be online, via Zoom.
