In Hamlet, Shakespeare used a play within a play to “catch the conscience of the king.” We’ll awaken not only our social conscience but also our playful spirit as we read and discuss three 20th century comedies and dramas, as well as watch video clips. Our focus will be the theater of the absurd and the theater of resistance as expressed in Ionesco’s Rhinoceros, Giraudoux’s Madwoman of Chaillot, and Pirandello’s Six Characters in Search of an Author. Join us for a lively exploration of European drama. Public domain translations will be provided.
