Beautiful voices raised in song; tuneful melodies easily remembered; dramatic passion vocally expressed. For many opera enthusiasts, these are some of the reasons for their passionate love of opera. And of course that includes their devotion to particular singers. During our six spring classes we will explore a diverse variety of Italian operatic melody beginning with Monteverdi’s Orfeo and concluding with Puccini’s Turandot. Among other Italian composers whose melodies we will encounter are Vivaldi, Handel, Gluck, Rossini, Donizetti, Bellini, and Verdi. We will also make vocal comparisons, including suggestions from class participants. Get your favorite opera singer list started! Audio and video will be used in these class sessions.
