Course Code: HIAN Categories: , Tag:

In her book We’re Still Here: Art of Indian New England, Joan Lester writes that Native American Art “reveals an ongoing, though continuously evolving, relationship between the Indian past and the Indian present in New England. This in-person course will present the artwork, creativity, and resiliency of a selection of Native New England artists  including Stan Neptune (Penobscot), Clara Keezer (Passamaquoddy), Tomah Joseph (Passamaquoddy), Linda Coombs (Aquinnah Wampanoag), David Moses Bridges (Passamaquoddy), and Gladys Widdins (Aquinnah Wampanoag). Joan Lester has had the privilege of being educated by Native Americans. She taught Native American Studies and Native American Art at Tufts University for many years and continues to support Native American issues. Instead  of a textbook the class will study and work with art objects that joan will bring to each class. We  will meet in a well ventilated classroom, and occasionally outdoors if weather permits. Proof of vaccination is required.
