Using oil pastels, you will produce your own compositions, interpreting subjects ranging from still life to human figures. Drawing methods used in this course are outline, contour then the creative strokes using the oil pastel sticks in achieving perspective, proportion, contrast, depth and dimension of the subjects chosen. Oil pastels are waxy and thick the pigment being mixed with non-drying oil thus the thicker pad is used e.g. Canson,Strathmore. 

Alma Bella Solis is an artist, designer and calligrapher who has been teaching art to adults and children for nearly 20 years.

  Art Materials needed:

*Easel (either floor or table top)
*18” x 24” Pad (80-Pound 24-Sheet Assorted Pastel Paper Pad by Strathmore; or
24-Sheet Mi-Teintes Pad for Pastels in assorted colors from Canson available at Amazon, online art stores)
*Set of Oil Pastels (more colors preferred in brand names Sakura Cray-Pas, Sennelier, Gallery Artist, Holbein, Caran d’Arche Neopastel, Erengi Art Aspirer, Maimeri Classico, Mungyo Gallery Soft Oil)
*Drawing pencils (graphite or charcoal; white pencils are used if pad is in rich black)


In accordance with the Lexington Public Schools, Lexington Community Education classes, events, and lessons will not take place from (at least) 3/13-5/4/20. Private music lessons and some group adult classes may be able to use online digital platforms in order to continue with lessons and learning when applicable and appropriate to the topic of study.
