Whether you’re about to give a big speech or presentation at work, have a difficult conversation with a friend, or try out a new song at karaoke, we all encounter situations where we need to “perform.” But we may not always have the tools to prepare ourselves for these moments physically, mentally, and emotionally. If you’re looking to discover or refresh your preparation techniques, this welcoming, low-pressure workshop is for you! Actress and teacher Poornima Kirby will share some of the key techniques that actors use to prepare their bodies, minds, voices, and hearts for the challenging act of stepping out on stage to perform. We’ll explore and discuss video excerpts from great actors, musicians, athletes and thought leaders on how they prepare to perform their best. And students will be encouraged to share preparation techniques that work well for them. Each student will leave with a refreshed toolkit for preparing to meet the performance challenges they may encounter in their daily life and work!
Poornima Kirby has taught acting and theater arts as well as coached privately in acting techniques, Shakespeare, and movement. She studied at Shakespeare and Co. and the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts, and received her B.A. in Drama, with honors, from Vassar College.
