Vernal pools are one of nature’s great spring surprises.  Melting snow and spring rains can create seasonal bodies of water that are home to an amazing array of aquatic creatures.  Come explore the vernal pool in Hayden Woods, where we will hope to find fairy shrimp and evidence of wood frogs, among other wonders.  We’ll meet at the Valleyfield Rd entrance to the property, and will use the ½ mile walk to the pool to see what other signs of spring we might find.

Masks should be worn during our time together.  Groups will remain socially distanced as we sample the water via the boardwalk at the pool.  Instructor will provide simple tools for exploring and examining aquatic life.  Dress for the weather and prepare to spend some time on hands and knees. Limit [ ].  Heavy rain or lightning will cancel.

Barbara Tarrh taught nature programs with MA Audubon for nearly 20 years. She is also a certified yoga teacher with a particular interest in combining yoga with mindful outdoor walks.
