Have you ever done science experiments that you can eat? Explore the scientific world as we use food to experiment with chemistry, physics, and earth science. Get your hands dirty as we make Oobleck and edible slime. Learn about the solar system with Oreos and marshmallows. Create art using candy and other edible items. This is a delicious and fun way to learn about science!

Laurel Harris is a third grade teacher at the Harrington School.

Supplies to be provided by parents:

– clear cups
– styrofoam plate (or any other round plate thick enough to hold a little liquid)
– Ziploc freezer bags — one quart, one gallon
– Ziploc/Rubbermaid containers
– dish soap
– toothpicks
– paper (any kind and color)
– crayons, markers, or colored pencils
– thin paint brush
– food coloring
– sugar (a couple of tablespoons)
– cornstarch
– vinegar (1 cup)
– table salt
– powdered sugar
– marshmallow Fluff
– celery
– raisins
– jelly beans
– Skittles (2 small bags or 1 large bag)
– carbonated water or Sprite
– cream/half & half
– rock salt
– Elmer’s glue
– corn syrup
– mini marshmallows
– Oreos (or any other round cream-filled sandwich cookie, flavor does not matter)
– craft sticks (10)
– rubber bands (6 or more – rainbow loom bands are great)
– plastic spoons
