Dive into two separate worlds of stage combat: unarmed and swordplay!
Learn the basics behind both styles commonly seen on stage and screen, and the principles and safety behind each move. During the unarmed portion of the day we will explore how what actors learn translates into film by comparing it to popular action movies like The Avengers and Star Wars. Throughout the week we will work with students to guide them through choreography and playing around with camera angles and foley sounds in order to produce a short filmed fight sequence they can take away with them! As we explore the world of parries, foot work and attacks in swordplay, we will compare what moves and techniques we learn in class to well-known staged and filmed fight sequences, and cover the differences between the two. We will also explore various differences between sword styles. The students will work throughout the week on provided choreography and mold them into a scenario of their own – finding their own rhythm and variation despite having the same moves!
