Greek Mythology has worthy truths to impart; they encourage values such as courage, respect, humility, hospitality, and community. We will read scripts of myths such as Hermes and Apollo, Prometheus, Arachne, Daedalus and Icarus, Phaethon and Apollo, Theseus and the Minotaur, Arion, King Midas, certain adventures of Ulysses, and How Odin Lost His Eye. Discussions follow our readings so we have time to ask questions and reflect. The idea is to turn the reading of great stories from an individual experience into an engaging, social experience.
John Chamberlain is an eighth grade English teacher at the Clarke Middle School.
