Description

First created in the 1930’s, Zines (pronounced “zeens” as in magazines) are self-published books or pamphlets that originated as a part of fan culture and have come to be an anti-authoritarian, community-building art form. Using your own drawings, poems, photographs, comics, interests and passions as source material, you will learn to create a variety of zine forms, both folded and bound. Working individually and/or in groups, you will use pen and pencil drawing, collage, and simple printmaking techniques to design, write, illustrate, and print your own zines. This class requires no prior experience or knowledge and is appropriate for people who consider themselves artists, fans, activists, enthusiasts or people who aspire to those pursuits.

Laura Sheppard-Brick is a math teacher at Lexington High School.
