Blooming, Springing & Celebrating 250!

If I were asked to name the chief benefit of the house, I should say: the house shelters day-dreaming, the house protects the dreamer, the house allows one to dream in peace.  – Gaston  Bachelard

April is turning out to be a glorious, educational, revolutionary, and poetic month here at LCE. We were honored to be the calendar keepers for Day 11 of the countdown toward the 250th, and to be invited (along with our collaborators from NLCC) to attend the LPS Community ELL Open House for families to talk about Lexplorations, our ELL classes for adults, and our Mandarin after school lessons for elementary school students. Our all day/night celebration of Indian Classical Music mastery with Shadaj was truly transformative and transcendent and has received high praise from New England to New Delhi and beyond. We are also very grateful to Stephen Collins for giving an amazingly moving and brilliant presentation on Edna St. Vincent Millay, and to Gillian and John Ross (pictured above) for sharing the beauty of their home/gallery on our spring cover…as well as with an in-person house tour last week. The aesthetic philosophy found in Gaston Bachelard’s famous book The Poetics of Space has nothing on Gallery Twist. Stunningly beautiful and amazing. A place to day-dream and take inspiration through visitation and/or through the (no pressure) purchase of original New England based art. It was wonderful to visit the gallery and to climb the stairs so handsomely featured on our LCE spring cover… with the color and spirit of spring bounding up the stairs and into the light! Our spring term is just getting started, with a budding garden of educational, experiential and intentional ways to encourage the rising energy of spring through renewal of the body, mind and spirit…and a whole category of offerings dedicated to classes and events in poetry and poetics!
