Our Education To Be Human Determines How We Are Human – Dr. Larry Ward

Last Thursday evening Lexington Community Education and Zen Center North Shore collaborated to present Dr. Larry Ward to speak with us about his book America’s Racial Karma: An Invitation to Heal and how we can move forward in the work of equity. Although a small book that could be carried in a back pocket and could possibly be read in one sitting, its message is enormously profound and has potential to expand perspectives in the work of healing. Lexington Community Education was proud to take part in the promotion of the message of Dr. Ward’s book, and on this Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday I want to continue to help promote the work and message of Dr. Ward and Dr. King by putting in a plug for a class that we are offering beginning this Friday called White People Challenging Racism.

The course description for White People Challenging Racism reads: Examine the role of White people in dismantling racism, in becoming antiracist, and in building an equitable society. Explore the impact of White privilege and how being unaware of that advantage helps perpetuate racism. Write about your own racial awareness journey. Enhance your understanding and capacity for action through discussion of short readings, videos, and other materials. Share everyday racism-related situations where you may not have effectively responded and, using role plays, work out effective ways to challenge racism. Develop a specific plan for challenging racism in the workplace, an organization, or in the community, while being encouraged to find other people in your life who can provide support and serve as an accountability partner in implementing your plan.
