Description

Guzheng, also known as the Chinese zither, is a traditional plucked instrument that holds a significant place in Chinese music and culture. Its name translates to “ancient zither” in Mandarin, reflecting its long history and cultural heritage. The Guzheng class not only focuses on learning how to play Guzheng, but also includes the exploration of various Chinese traditional musical instruments and the appreciation of Chinese traditional music. Through the course, students will acquire fundamental knowledge and basic finger techniques of the Guzheng playing. Based on this, students will then learn to play a variety of Chinese and Western tunes. They will practice to develop skills for ensemble playing. Additionally, throughout the classes, students will have the opportunity to enjoy different styles of Chinese music.

All in class music instruments will be provided and were made possible by a grant from the Community Endowment of Lexington.
