Ethan Shin
Ethan Shin is a violist/violinist based in Lexington, Massachusetts. He started playing violin at 6 years old, and viola at 15. He earned his Bachelor of Music in Viola Performance from the Eastman School of Music at the University of Rochester in June 2025, studying under Philip Ying of the award winning Ying Quartet.
Ethan was a principal player in the Eastman Philharmonia orchestra from 2023 to 2025, and earned a full fellowship at the Miami Beach Classical Music Festival in summer 2024. He also played viola in the Boston University Tanglewood Institute Young Artists Orchestra in 2019. From 2018 to 2021, he was a violist in the Boston Philharmonic Youth Orchestra. Earlier in his development, Ethan was concertmaster of the NEC Youth Repertory Orchestra (2017–2018) and the Milwaukee Youth Symphony Orchestra (2015–2016), during which he won the Philharmonia Concerto Competition and served as a violin soloist. In 2015, he won the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra’s Bach Double Violin Competition.
