John Coltrane, Sonny Rollins, and Charlie Parker all named Lester “Pres” Young and Coleman Hawkins as inspirations, and they admired Ben Webster’s distinctive style as well. Yet today the disciples are far better known than their teachers. In this session you will hear some music that is amazing in its own right, and you will also understand how it set the stage for today’s jazz.
