Simone Cartales

Violin/Viola

Simone Cartales is a violist, violinist, and educator, based in Boston. She received her Master’s Degree in Viola Performance from the Longy School of Music of Bard College in 2023 and her Bachelor’s Degree of the same concentration from Ithaca College in 2020. Simone has been teaching for the past 10 years, both privately and in group settings. She is currently the Violin/Viola Instructor at the Merrimack Valley Community Music School and a
Teaching Assistant for the Saturday Chamber Music Program at the Winchester Community Music School. She has previously taught with the Boston Youth Symphony Orchestra’s Intensive Community Program and From the Top’s MusiConnects.

As a classical musician, Simone is an avid chamber music and orchestral performer. She is a founding member of the Gaia Quartet, a classical string quartet dedicated to playing music by living composers and underrepresented composers. Simone is also a member of the Du Bois Orchestra, and has played with other groups including the Binghamton Philharmonic Orchestra, the Quincy Symphony Orchestra, and Palaver Strings.

Simone began playing viola at the age of four in the Longy School of Music Preparatory Program where she studied with Paula Majerfeld in her Suzuki viola class. Simone participated in youth orchestras at the Longy School of Music Preparatory Program, New England Conservatory Preparatory Division, and the Waldorf School of Lexington where she attended grades 1-8.

Simone is a passionate artist whose goal is to bring music and the arts to the community as
a whole through teaching and performing.
