Description

Come with a friend, partner, parent, or family member and spend quality time together exploring the ancient Ukrainian art of Pysanky. You’ll learn the traditional wax-resist method using real chicken eggs, beeswax, a kistka (stylus), candle, and colorful dyes — while discovering the history and symbolism behind this centuries-old folk art. In this special session, pairs will create matching or complementary Pysanky, using shared colors or motifs while keeping each egg unique and personal. It’s a meaningful, hands-on experience that blends tradition, creativity, and togetherness, leaving you with beautiful keepsakes and lasting memories. A $35 material fee is payable to the instructor upon arrival.

 

Alona Popova is passionate about preserving the rich tradition of Ukrainian egg decorating. Born and raised in Ukraine, she is dedicated to safeguarding and sharing this cultural heritage in its modern form. As an experienced instructor, Alona has taught Pysanky at community educational centers, Ukrainian schools, and Ukrainian cultural center. She actively researches pysanky history, explores natural dyes, and incorporates techniques from contemporary Pysankarky in Ukraine and beyond. Her workshops welcome participants of all skill levels to discover the beauty and wonder of this cherished art form.
