Description
What if the most interesting part of making art is what you didn’t plan? This workshop explores that sense of wonder through the life and work of Brian Eno — musician, producer, visual artist, and one of the most compelling systems thinkers in contemporary culture. From his art school beginnings and Roxy Music years through his groundbreaking ambient records and collaborations with David Bowie, Talking Heads, U2, and Fred Again, to his generative visual art, light installations, and the Bloom app — Eno has spent a lifetime setting systems in motion and watching the experiment carry itself out.
Lisa Faircloth Carey’s strong affinity for Brian Eno’s work was sparked in 1981 when she first heard the complex soundscapes of the serene, pensive and joyful album “Another Green World”. Lisa is the Design System Lead at a tech company, and her 35+ year career spans filmmaking, television, web and product design, after receiving her BFA from SMFA/Tufts. With a systems-thinking approach to creativity, she understands the interplay between technology and artistic output, and is also inspired by Eno’s message that making art is play for adults, and to enjoy the unexpected along the way.
In 1981, although already unknowingly under the influence of Brian Eno by way of David Bowie (radio stations in the late 70s used to play Bowie’s Sound and Vision from Low and that sound + vision stuck), Craig Hall was trying to figure out how to play guitar like Randy Rhoads on a red electric guitar that his mom ordered through the mail from the back of a Hit Parader music magazine for him. Although moving on from Heavy Metal guitar pursuits in the 80s, the 70s Bowie influence grew, and led to a musical fascination with Eno by way of Bowie, Talking Heads, U2, and especially Roxy Music. Craig is currently the Director of Lexington Community Education where he (as much as possible) sits in on classes to learn…and on special occasions volunteers to teach on topics he finds irresistible. Craig has dreamed for years of having LCE offer a class on Brian Eno, and finding a person qualified to teach it. Dreams really do come true and he is honored to collaborate with Eno enthusiast Lisa Carey on this one-of-a-kind course opportunity.Start Date: 6/2/2026, 1 meeting
