Description

CSL Beginner Mandarin is a full-year introductory Mandarin course designed specifically for students with no Mandarin background and little or no exposure to Chinese at home. This course is ideal for non-heritage learners beginning their Mandarin journey in a supportive, engaging, and age-appropriate environment.

The primary goal of this course is to help students build confidence in listening to and speaking Mandarin through meaningful, real-life communication. Classes are fun, interactive, and developmentally appropriate, using songs, stories, games, movement activities, role play, crafts, and hands-on projects to help students naturally understand and use Mandarin in authentic classroom situations.

Students learn essential everyday vocabulary, simple sentence patterns, classroom communication, and cultural knowledge while developing enthusiasm and long-term interest in learning Chinese. Chinese culture is integrated throughout the curriculum through holidays, traditions, food, arts, and daily-life topics.

Early literacy exposure, including basic character recognition and introductory writing activities, may be gradually introduced in a low-pressure and age-appropriate manner. The primary focus of this level, however, remains listening comprehension, speaking confidence, and meaningful communication, while preparing students for future levels with more structured reading and writing instruction.

Prerequisite: No prior Mandarin experience is required. This course is designed specifically for true beginners and non-heritage students learning Mandarin as a second language.
