Create a beautiful handmade Pysanky and transform it into a festive holiday ornament in this family-friendly workshop. Participants will learn the traditional Ukrainian wax-resist method using real chicken eggs, beeswax, a “kistka” tool, candles, and colorful dyes to create unique designs and patterns. During the workshop, participants will also learn several options for turning their finished pysanka into a hanging ornament perfect for holiday decorating or gifting. This class is suitable for beginners, families, and anyone looking for a cozy seasonal creative experience together. All materials are included. Children ages 6+ are welcome when accompanied by an adult. A $20 material fee is payable to the instructor upon arrival.
Alona Popova is passionate about preserving the rich tradition of Ukrainian egg decorating. Born and raised in Ukraine, she is dedicated to safeguarding and sharing this cultural heritage in its modern form. As an experienced instructor, Alona has taught Pysanky at community educational centers, Ukrainian schools, and Ukrainian cultural center. She actively researches pysanky history, explores natural dyes, and incorporates techniques from contemporary Pysankarky in Ukraine and beyond. Her workshops welcome participants of all skill levels to discover the beauty and wonder of this cherished art form.
